SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team is still in search of its first road win of the year following a 88-59 loss to Cal Poly in a Big West match-up Thursday night at Mott Gym.
 
The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 10-9 overall and 4-4 in the Big West with their fourth loss in the last five games. The 'Bows also dropped to 0-4 on the road this year.
 
Cal Poly (8-9, 4-3 Big West) built a double-digit lead less than seven minutes into the game, a lead they would maintain throughout. The Mustangs led 38-26 at the break then went on a second-half blitz—leading by as many as 34 points—in handing UH its largest margin of defeat this year. 
 
Five days after UC Davis torched UH for 16 three-pointers, the Rainbow Warriors were again bombarded from long-range. The Mustangs buried 11 three-pointer, including three straight during a decisive second-half run that put the game away.  Cal Poly shot 56 percent from the floor, the highest percentage by a UH opponent this year.
 
Meanwhile UH, one of the best rebounding teams in the nation, was out-rebounded (38-21) for just the third time in 19 games this season, while its 21 boards were a season low.
 
Isaac Fotu and Christian Standhardinger each finished with 14 points for UH, while Brandon Jawato poured in 12.  Senior center Vander Joaqium, hampered by foul trouble, finished with a season-low two points and one rebound in just 12 minutes of action.
 
Chris Eversley led four Cal Poly players in double-figures with 19 points as the Mustangs snapped a three-game losing streak.
 
UH trailed by as many as 16 points late in the first half but was able to shave the deficit to 38-26 on a Brandon Jawato three-pointer at the halftime buzzer. Whatever momentum UH took going into the locker room was erased in the opening minutes of the second half when the Mustangs went on a 15-3 run to double their lead to 24 points less than five minutes into the second stanza.
 
Next up for the Rainbow Warriors is a meeting with UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Jan. 26. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m. PT (2:00 p.m.).
