The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team returns to the mainland for a two-match Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series against ninth-ranked Long Beach State, Friday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 19 at The Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, Calif. Match times are 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) on Friday and 7:30 p.m. PT (5:30 p.m. HT) on Saturday.
 
The Warriors (1-4, 0-2 MPSF) are coming off a 1-2 finish at last week's Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational in Honolulu. All three matches went five sets including a thrilling win over fifth-ranked UCLA on the final day of the tournament. UH also lost five-setters to 10th-ranked Ohio State and No. 7 Penn State, both of which the Warriors led two sets to one.
 
Outside hitter JP Marks earned all-tournament honors after averaging a team-best 3.47 kills per set. The sophomore from Schwerin, Germany tied his career-high with 19 kills in the opener against OSU and had 18 kills, on .324 hitting, in the win over the Bruins. Also earning all-tourney honors was libero Matthew Cheape, who averaged 2.33 digs per set, including a career-high 15 digs against Penn State.

LBSU (3-2, 1-1) dropped its league opener to ninth-ranked UC Santa Barbara in straight sets last week but rebounded with a four-set win at No. 5 UCLA on Tuesday at Pauley Pavilion. Two weeks ago, the Beach went 2-1 in the season-opening UCSB Invitational, with wins over Loyola and UC San Diego and a loss to top-ranked UC Irvine.
 
UH leads the all-time series with LBSU, 37-35, however, the 49ers swept a two-match series last season in Honolulu.

Series Information: UH leads the overall series, 37-35, including a 19-13 advantage in matches played in Long Beach, Calif. The Warriors swept the season series at The Pyramid in 2011 winning the first match in four sets (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23) and the rematch in three straight (25-23, 27-25, 25-17). Last season, the 49ers took both matches against the Warriors in Honolulu.

What's Next: Following this week's LBSU series, the Warriors return to the Stan Sheriff Center to host a two-match MPSF series with Pepperdine, Friday, Jan. 25 and Sunday, Jan. 27.
