Final Results

AUSTIN, Texas – University of Hawai'i triple jumpers Madara Apine and Amanda Alvarez failed to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships despite record performances Saturday at the West Preliminary Round Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
 
Both finished second in their respective pits with Apine posting a seasonal best mark and Alvarez eclipsing her personal record.
 
Apine, a senior from Ikskile, Latvia had her career-best showing at the regional championships by placing 15^th overall and missed qualifying for nationals by two inches. The reigning Western Athletic Conference gold medalist placed second in her pit with a jump of 41-6.5 (12.66m) to finish among the top 16 to advance to the second round of jumping but could not better that mark.
 
Alvarez, a sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., and WAC bronze medalist, placed 21^st overall with a huge PR jump of 41-1.75 (12.54m), nearly seven inches better than her previous best set earlier this season.
 
Earlier in the day, senior Emma MacCorquodale concluded her career by placing 39^th in the hammer throw. The Nanaimo, British Columbia native threw 178-11 (54.53m) and failed to finish among the top 16 to advance to the second round of throwing.
 
The three-day meet concluded with one of UH's seven athletes advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in two weeks in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior discus thrower TeRina Keenan is the lone UH qualifier and is just the third discus thrower in school history to advance to nationals.
