HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i baseball team's quest to win its second straight Western Athletic Conference regular season title came to a close on Friday with a 4-2 loss to Nevada in 10 innings. The Rainbows will play their regular season finale Saturday against Nevada at 6:35 p.m.

Pi'ikea Kitamura batted 2-4 with one run and one RBI for the 'Bows (29-23, 9-8 WAC), who needed wins tonight and Saturday to claim a share of the regular season title and secure a first round bye in next week's WAC Tournament. Zack Swasey had two hits and Kaeo Aliviado added one hit and one run.

Kewby Meyer had a pair of hits for the Wolf Pack (31-22, 11-6 WAC) and scored Jay Anderson (1 H, 1 R) from third base on a sacrifice fly for what proved to be the gamewinner.

Elliot Van Gaver (2-0) earned the win in just one-third innings of work, with Matt Gardner pitching a scoreless 10th inning for the save.

Lawrence Chew (2-3) was tagged with the loss in 2.2 solid innings for Hawai'i. He allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

The Rainbows opened the scoring with a run in the first inning. Aliviado ripped a double to the right centerfield gap before Kitamura drove him home on a blooper to left field.

After three scoreless innings from Rainbow starter Scott Squier, Nevada finally got to him when Carlos Escobar, Jr. got things going for Nevada with a two-RBI triple down the right field line to give his team a 2-1 lead.

Squier battled through the fifth inning where he hit his third batter, then threw a wild pitch to put a pair of Nevada runners in scoring position. He would work himself out of the jam, forcing a line shot to left field that Aliviado ran down for the third out.

In the sixth inning, the Rainbows tied the game when Trevor Podratz drew a bases loaded walk, sending Kitamura home to tie the game at 2-2.

4,632 tickets were issued for tonight's sell out contest, with 3,363 fans pouring through the turnstiles.
