Rainbow Sailors Just Miss Cut For Nationals

Full Results

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team concluded its season with a 5th place finish at the PCCSC Dinghy Championships hosted by UC Santa Barbara, April 28-29.

UC Irvine just edged out UH in the final heat of the day to claim the fourth and final qualifying spot for the ICSA National Semifinals. The Rainbows finished with 63 points, just two points behind the Anteaters. Stanford won the regatta by a wide margin, finishing with 22 points, easily distancing themselves from second-place UC Santa Barbara (44) and third-place Long Beach State (55).

Warm, light and fickle winds plagued the course all weekend as only 12 races—six each in the A and B divisions—were completed. Adam Pokras and Cienna Patmont finished fourth in the A division with 27 points, while Michael Hanson and Bree Nidds claimed sixth in the B division with 36 points.

Both Pokras (skipper) and Patmont (crew), who earlier this season led UH to victory at the St. Francis Interconference Reggatta, were named to the 12-person all-PCCSC sailing team at the conclusion of the championship regatta.
