California Invitational Final Results
AZUSA, Calif. – University of Hawai'i junior
Samantha Balentine recorded the school's second-best heptathlon point total at the California Invitational, Thursday at Cougar Stadium on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
Several other Rainbow Wahine were in action on Thursday at neighboring meets.
Balentine, a junior from Lodi, Calif., set a personal-best with 4,904 points to finish seventh among 30 athletes who completed the event. Balentine's total eclipsed her previous best by 179 points and moved her into the No. 2 spot on the school's all-time list behind All-American Annett Wichmann.
She started the day with the ninth-best long jump of 18-3.75 (5.58m) followed by a 20
th place finish in the javelin at 94-3 (28.73m). She concluded the day by placing 14
th in the 800-meter run (2:28.59).
Also competing in the field was sophomore
Amanda Alvarez, who completed her first-ever heptathlon with a 25
th place finish with 4,307 points. Fellow Rainbow Wahine
Kaleigh Morrison withdrew from the event after suffering an injury during the high jump on Wednesday.
Alvarez, of Vancouver, Wash., tied for fourth in the long jump (18-7.25/5.67m), placed 25
th in the javelin (84-3/25.68m) and finished 28
th in the 800-meters (2:40.06).
UH athletes also competed in the Mt. SAC Relays, Cal State Los Angeles Twilight Meet and Bryan Clay Invitational.
Ashley Aitken competed in the 1500-meter run on the opening day of the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. The senior finished 54
th with a time of 4:29.63.
The Rainbow Wahine will be in action again on Friday with the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational.
