HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team was swept by Saint Mary's in a series finale doubleheader on Sunday at Les Murakami Stadium. The Rainbows fell 6-2 in 10 innings in the opener, then dropped game two, 5-3, to fall to 21-15 on the season.

Saint Mary's (16-17) had all the momentum in game one, as Gael starter Kyle Barraclough cruised through the Rainbow lineup through six innings. SMC scored a pair of runs in the third inning and looked poised for the game one win.

The 'Bows finally got to Barraclough in their final at bats of the scheduled seven-inning game. Kaeo Aliviado singled, then Pi'ikea Kitamura drew a base on balls to put Aliviado in scoring position, forcing Barraclough out of the game in favor of Patrick Keane.  After a Trevor Podratz sacrifice, Collin Bennett hit a blooper to centerfield to score both runners and send the game into extra innings.

The 'Bows had opportunities to win the game in both the eighth and ninth innings, but it was Saint Mary's who broke through with four runs in the top of the 10th inning. Brenden Kalfus provided the big hit of the inning, a three-RBI double off of Rainbow reliever David Longville. The Rainbows were retired in order in the bottom of the inning.

Bennett led the 'Bows batting 3-4 with two RBI and one double, and Zack Swasey added a pair of base hits.

Kalfus had two hits, one run, and three RBI for the Gaels with Cole Norton posting two hits and two runs.

Keane (3-0) and Longville (1-2) were the pitchers of record. Longville tossed three innings and was charged with the four 10th-inning runs, while Keane tossed four scoreless innings. Barraclough and Rainbow starter Scott Squier did not factor in the decision.

Saint Mary's scored all its game two runs in the fifth inning. Swasey (2-3, 2 RBI) doubled in the second inning to give UH a 2-0 lead, but the Gaels responded to go up 5-2 after five innings of play. Norton (1 H, 1 R, 2 RBI) and Collin Ferguson (2 H, 2 RBI) both delivered RBI hits to help to the big inning.

UH threw four pitchers in the game, with Kyle Dowdy (1-2) taking the loss. He allowed three runs on two hits in one-third of an inning of work. Gael starter Jordan Mills (3-3) earned the win, giving up one earned run on four hits in 4.2 innings of work.

There were 2,764 tickets issued and 1,439 fans in attendance for the doubleheader.

The Rainbows now take to the road for a pair of Western Athletic Conference series against San Jose State (Apr. 20-22) and Louisiana Tech (Apr. 26-28) sandwiched around an April 24th game at Grambling State.
