Rainbow Sailors Claim St. Francis Interconference

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team captured its second regatta of the season, claiming the St. Francis Interconference Regatta, March 31-April 1.  It marked the first time in nine years UH captured the prestigious regatta.  
 
The Rainbows beat out 30 other teams raced in the two-day regatta with 9 races total in both the A and B divisions.  The breeze ranged from 15-28 knots, and the tidal shift, and course current added an extra challenge for the sailors. UH finished with 77 points, six points ahead of runner-up UC Santa Barbara (83).  The Rainbow Wahine also competed in the event finishing 21st with a total of 338 points, just behind UCLA  (330).
 
Sailing for the coed team, Adam Pokras, and Cienna Patmont dominated by winning the A division with 42 points, a good 15 points ahead of its nearest competitor. Michael Hanson and Bree Nidds also had a strong showing, finishing in second place in the B division with 35 points.
 
In the A division for the  Rainbow Wahine squad was Madeline Kennedy and Lani Johnson placing 19th with 167 points.  Finishing 21st in the B division with 171 points was Hanne Nagatani and Lindsay Stewart.  
 
Next up for the coed team is the PCCSC Team Racing Championship in Redwood City, Calif., April 14-15. The Rainbow Wahine will next host the PCCSC Women's Championship, April 21-22, at Keehi Lagoon.
