Water Polo Drops Another Conference Match To No. 1 UCLA

HONOLULU – The No. 16 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team dropped its final home match to No. 1 UCLA, 8-4 Saturday night before a crowd of 351. Despite being unable to break a six-match conference lose streak, two seniors were honored after the match at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
 
The Rainbow Wahine (7-11, 0-6 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) had a slow start with the Bruins (16-1, 5-0 MPSF) going on a four-goal scoring run into the second quarter. However, Emily Carr scored UH's first goal to break UCLA's streak going into halftime, 4-1.
 
In the second half, UCLA scored four more goals to foot a comfortable lead until the end. Although Amarens Genee was able to find the net in the final quarter with three goals, it was not enough to pull UH through.
 
Emily Greenwood and Becca Dorst scored one goal after the other, respectively for the Bruins in the first quarter to start off with a 2-0 lead over the Rainbow Wahine.
 
UCLA's Kelly Ronimus powered in another goal early in the second with a man up with Gisselle Naranjo following with another to take the Bruins to a 4-0 with 3:50 left. However, Carr powered one in off the post to score the first goal of the night for UH to take them 4-1 into halftime.
 
Ronimus scored her second goal of the night for UCLA to start off the third. Natasha Schulman sealed a strong 6-1 lead scoring another for the Bruins to end the period. 
 
KK Clark scored one to take the Bruins' scoring run to three unanswered goals to start off the final quarter. Amarens Genee answered back at 5:59 to score UH's second goal of the night. However, Clark scored another shortly after.
 
In the last minute of play, Genee scored two more goals for the Rainbow Wahine, including one at the last second, however, it was not enough to catch up to the Bruins as they took the match 8-4.
 
Seniors Maile Osborne and Sivan Pardon were honored in senior night festivities following the match.
 
UH takes on its last stretch of season play on the road from Apr. 14-15. The Rainbow Wahine will look to grab a conference win at Arizona, and will additionally face Cal Baptist, Claremont-McKenna and conclude the season in its final match against Occidental.
