Match Notes
After concluding a five-week stretch of playing top-four nationally ranked teams, the 12th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team will play a two-match Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series at No. 14 Cal State Northridge, Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24 at The Matadome. First serve for both matches is 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT).
Over the past five weeks, Warriors (7-14, 4-12 MPSF) played 10 consecutive matches – five two-match series – against teams ranked Nos. 1-4. UH lost both matches to No. 4 Brigham Young over the weekend, including a five-set thriller in the series opener. Hawai'i's only win during that span was a four-set win over then-No. 3 Stanford.
CSUN (8-13, 4-10) enters this week's series – which ends a nine-match homestand – having lost its last three matches, including league contests against UC Irvine and UC San Diego last week, the latter of which snapped a 40-match win streak over the Tritons.
Over the next three weeks, the Warriors will play their final six regular season matches against CSUN, Long Beach State, and UC Santa Barbara, three teams who are also fighting with UH for a spot in the eight-team MPSF Tournament. Four spots in the tourney have already been claimed with Stanford all but assured another spot. That leaves seven teams chasing three open spots.
With 12 more kills, senior outside hitter
Steven Hunt will become the 14th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. The Toronto, Ontario native has 988 career kills in 92 matches.
