NAMPA, Idaho – University of Hawai'i sophomore
Kaleigh Morrison placed fifth in the pentathlon of the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, Thursday, at Jacksons Track at the Idaho Sports Complex.
The Tigard, Ore., native scored a personal-best 3,298 points in the five disciplines. She placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.34), tied for second in the high jump (5-5/1.65m), 10
th in the shot put (30-8.25/9.35m), eighth in the long jump (17-2/5.23m), and 11
th in the 800-meter run (2:41.73).
Utah State's Chari Hawkins won the event with 3,669 points, edging New Mexico State's Zoe Meade (3,612) and Nevada's April Pate (3,559).
Also competing in the event was UH's
Amanda Alvarez, who placed 11
th with 2,971 points. The sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 17-7.5 (5.37m) and also had seventh place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles (9.39) and 800-meters (2:39.83).
The meet continues on Thursday with the first full day of competition.
