Match Notes
HONOLULU – The 13th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team continues its three-week homestand by hosting No. 1 UCLA, in a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches, Friday, Feb. 17 and Saturday, Feb. 18. Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Warriors (6-7, 3-5 MPSF) are looking to rebound following a two-match sweep by No. 2 UC Irvine last week in Honolulu. UH dropped the opening match in four sets and were swept in the rematch.
Legendary UCLA head coach Al Scates will make his final appearances at the Stan Sheriff Center. Scates, the winningest coach in collegiate volleyball history, will retire following this season after 50 years of coaching.
The Bruins (12-1, 7-0) are on a 10-match win streak and haven't lost since falling to UC Irvine, Jan. 7, at the UCSB/asics Invitational. UCLA plays at Long Beach State, Feb. 14, before travelling to Honolulu. During their win streak, the Bruins have won seven matches in straight sets and six wins have come on the road.
Entering the UC Irvine series, the Warriors had seemingly turned the corner, winning four straight including back-to-back series sweeps over Grand Canyon and Pacific. But UH ran into a road block as the Anteaters hit a combined .359 in the series with 12 service aces and 20 team blocks. The Warriors hit a season-low .130 in the straight-set loss.
