Match Notes
The 12th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team will make its first road trip of the season with a two-match Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series against No. 7 Pepperdine, Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21 at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, Calif.
Friday's match is set for 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) while Saturday's match will begin at approximately 8:00 p.m. PT (6:00 p.m. HT), shortly after the conclusion of the Waves' men's basketball game.
The Warriors (2-3, 1-1 MPSF) are coming off a third place finish in the Outrigger Hotels Invitational last week in Honolulu with a win over Springfield and losses to No. 9 Lewis and No. 3 UCLA. UH is 1-1 in MPSF play this season after a season-opening series split with UC San Diego two weeks ago in Honolulu.
Outside hitters
Steven Hunt and
JP Marks were both named to the Outrigger Invitational all-tournament team after each posted double-digits kills in all three matches. In fact, the duo were the tourney's top kill leaders with 43 and 37, respectively.
The Waves (3-1, 2-0) won a pair of four-set MPSF matches against Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State last week in Malibu, Calif. Pepperdine opened the season at home with a non-conference series split with Lewis.

Series Information: UH and Pepperdine have met 64 previous times with the Waves holding a 38-26 advantage. The Warriors have won the last three matches in the series including a series sweep in Honolulu last season and a split in Malibu in 2010. In fact, Hawai'i has split the MPSF series with Pepperdine at Firestone Fieldhouse the past four trips since 2004. Each time, the Waves took the opening match before the Warriors rebounded and won the rematch.
What's Next: Following this week's two-match MPSF series with Pepperdine, the Warriors return to Honolulu to host a two-match non-conference series against Grand Canyon, Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Stan Sheriff Center. First serve for both matches is 7:00 p.m. A member of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, the Antelopes are 1-2 against MPSF teams this season, dropping both ends of a two-match series at Pacific and defeating UC San Diego at home.
