LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team suffered its second straight road loss after falling to Long Beach State, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at George Allen Field.
Two days after pushing No. 14 UC Irvine to the limit in a tight 2-1 loss, the Rainbow Wahine found the going tough against the 49ers. LBSU (4-2) scored two goals in the first 16 minutes of the match and never looked back in handing UH (0-5) its fifth straight loss to start the year.
LBSU's Nadia Link was in on all three goals, scoring the team's second goal in the 16
th minute and the third and final goal of the day, less than three minutes into the second half. Link also provided an assist for Shawna Gordon's opening goal in the 9
th minute.
The 49ers out-shot the Rainbow Wahine, 15-7, while UH was able to muster just one shot on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Kanani Taaca posted six saves in the loss.
UH will now conclude its three-match California road swing when it travels to Moraga to face Saint Mary's on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. PT (1:00 p.m. HT).
