REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team participated in its first competition of the season at the PCCSC Men's Singlehanded Championship, Sept. 25. Two sailors competed for UH with junior
Julian Soto the top finisher in fifth place.
Mateo Vargas (15 points) from Stanford won the conference championship and Kieran Chung-Wolf (19) from Stanford took second. The pair qualified for the 2011 ICSA/LaserPerformance Singlehanded National Championship to be held on November 4-6 at Chicago Yacht Club.
Soto trailed UC Berkeley by four points with a total of 41 points. Also sailing for UH was
Craig Schifferns (6th, 49 points) A total of six sailors were in the field with nine races completed over the course of the day.
Next up for the Rainbows is the Stoney Burke Intersectional, Oct. 15-16, in Treasure Island, Calif.
