Rainbows Shutdown By Nevada

RENO, Nev. – For the second time this season, the University of Hawai'i baseball team fell victim to the mercy rule, losing to Nevada Friday, 10-0. The Rainbows fall to 25-20 overall and 10-4 in the WAC with the Wolf Pack improving to 17-24 overall and 6-7 in conference. 

Jarrett Arakawa (5-3) received the loss for UH, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in four innings. Troy Marks (2-3) pitched a complete-game shutout for the win. 

Collin Bennett and pinch hitters Michael Blake and Kalani Brackenridge each recorded one hit for the 'Bows. Brock Stassi (3-4, 2 R, 3 RBI) and Brian Barnett (3-3, 1 R, 2 RBI) led Nevada, who hit UH pitching hard with six extra base hits. 

Nevada opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning. Joe Kohan (1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) hit an RBI-double for the first run of the game, then RBI-hits by Stassi and Barnett built the lead to 3-0. The Wolf Pack added a pair of runs each in the fourth and fifth innings, then closed the game with three runs in the sixth. 

The Rainbows and Wolf Pack will conclude the series Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time (10:00 a.m. HST).
