SAN JOSE, Calif. – The No. 5 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team (18-8) pulled past San Diego State, 14-10, Saturday in the consolation bracket of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament at the Aquatics Center.
Although the Aztecs (20-14) jumped to an early 2-0 advantage over UH in the first two minutes of the match, the Rainbow Wahine powered in four back-to-back goals to end the first quarter with a 4-2 lead and never looked back.
In the final quarter however, SDSU got within two goals, bringing the score to 12-10 with 3:42 left in the match, but the Rainbow Wahine sealed the victory with two goals in the last three minutes.

Amarens Genee each recorded a hat trick for UH to combine for six of the Rainbow Wahine's 14 goals. The Aztecs were led by Sarah Brady with three goals.
“We played better today as a team," said Head Coach Michel Roy. "We were more disciplined and patient today. We waited for better opportunities and put the ball into the net. Sara Graltizer, our backup goalie, played great today. We have nine ladies that have played at Junior Worlds and have the experience and ability to play when we are behind.”
The victory advances UH to a fifth-place match on Sunday, May 1 at 11:30 a.m. PT against No. 4 USC, who lost to UCLA on Friday but bounced back Saturday after edging out Arizona State 10-9.
