Men’s Tennis Drops WAC Match To Idaho

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The No. 56 University of Hawai`i mens tennis team lost its second league match in the last three days with a 4-2 loss to Idaho Sunday afternoon at the Vandals Tennis Courts. The Warriors fell to 5-10 overall and 1-2 in the Western Athletic Conference with the loss.

UH entered 1-1 in league play after falling to No. 44 Fresno State, 5-2, on Friday, before rebounding on Saturday with 5-0 shutout of Utah State. The Rainbow Warriors, however, could not keep the momentum, dropping four of six singles matches to the host Vandals (16-4, 3-1 WAC). The teams did not play doubles.

Highlighting the day for the Rainbow Warriors were senior Dennis Lajola, who dispatched of No. 110 Marius Cirsea, 6-3, 6-4; and freshman Jonathan Brooklyn who pulled off a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win over Abid Akbar on the No. 4 court. Three of UH's four losses were extremely tight. Two matches were extended into a third set, while Leo Rosenberg battled hard before falling to Lachlan Reed, 6-4, 6-4 on the No. 2 court.

The Rainbow Warriors will remain on the road where they will complete their regular season with a trio of WAC matches in Fresno, Calif. First up for UH is New Mexico State on Friday, April 15 at 12:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. HT).
