Warriors Begin Season-Ending Homestand Against Cal State Northridge

Match Notes

HONOLULU – The No. 9 University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team begins a season-ending four-match homestand by hosting a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches against Cal State Northridge, Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2. Game time for both matches is 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Following the CSUN series, the Warriors host top-ranked USC, April 8-9, to close out the regular season. UH has already clinched a playoff berth into the eight-team MPSF Tournament for the second consecutive year.

Hawai'i (12-11, 10-8 MPSF) was riding high with a six-match win streak but came back down to earth after dropping both ends of a two-match series with No. 3 Brigham Young last week. UH was swept in the opener but battled back the next night before falling in five, including 15-13 in the fifth set.

All-American opposite Jonas Umlauft averaged 5.75 kills per set during the series and hit .312 against the nation's top-ranked blocking team. Outside hitter Joshua Walker averaged 3.12 kills per set at a .333 clip. In the five-setter, Umlauft had a match-high 28 kills and became just the 13th player in school history to record 1,000 career kills, including just the third to do so in his second season.

The Matadors (6-18, 4-13) are coming off a pair of losses to No. 2 Stanford and No. 15 Pacific last week. CSUN dropped a heartbreaking five-set loss to the Cardinal in which it led 2-1 before the defending national champs stormed back to win the final two sets, including 15-11 in the fifth. Despite being unranked and with only four wins in league play, two of Northridge's wins have come against BYU and Long Beach State this season.
