Game Notes

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (10-17, 4-10 WAC) continues their season-ending, three game homestand on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 5:00 pm against the WAC's second place team, Fresno State (20-7, 11-2 WAC).

The Rainbow Wahine, who most recently defeated San Jose State this past Thursday, are currently in seventh place in the Western Athletic Conference with a 4-10 record, while San Jose State and Boise State both have two wins and are in eighth and ninth place respectively. San Jose State and Boise State will face each other this Saturday in California.

Hawai`i continues to be led by freshman forward, Kamilah Jackson who is sixth in the NCAA DI with 11.7 rebounds per game. She has been a powerful force on the glass on both sides of the floor. Jackson has amassed 135 offensive and 158 defensive rebounds for a total of 295 boards. She also continues to lead UH with 11.8 points per game. Last week, the rookie broke former UH great Judy Mosely's freshman record for double-doubles (nine). Jackson had a pair of double-doubles on thier last roadtrip to bring her total to 11 double-doubles—scoring 14 points with 10 rebounds at NMSU (Feb. 15) and 12 points and 10 boards at Louisiana Tech (Feb. 17) and just missed posting her 12th double-double scoring 12 points with nine rebounds against San Jose State (Feb. 24).

Also at New Mexico State, senior guard Keisha Kanekoa passed former UH great, Ayesha Brooks' career point mark of 1,131 points for 10th all-time in the UH scoring record books. This season, Kanekoa leads the team in total points with 301 and is second with 11.1 points per game. She now has 1,161 points after posting 20 points--including the winning basket with eight second left against San Jose State on Thursday. Kanekoa will also be making her 100th career start against Fresno State.

Freshman guard/forward Shawna-Lei Kuehu missed her first game of the season against San Jose State due to injury. She is one of the most complete players on the Rainbow Wahine roster after missing almost all of last year with an injury. Kuehu's numbers have increasingly raised throughout the season. She is now third on the team with 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. She also is second on the team with 63 assists and 26 blocks and Kuehu has a team-high 42 steals through 26 games. In WAC games, Kuehu leads UH with 10.3 points per game (134 points overall), an .806 free-throw percentage (25-for-31), and 24 steals.
