Warriors Begin Two-Week Homestand Against UC Santa Barbara

HONOLULU – The 10th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team begins a two-week homestand with No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4 at the Stan Sheriff Center. Match times for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series are 7:00 p.m.
 
The Warriors (2-5, 2-2 MPSF) split a two-match series at UC San Diego last weekend, dropping the opener in five-sets and winning the rematch in four-sets. All-American opposite Jonas Umlauft led Hawai'i averaging 5.67 kills per set on .350 during the series. He has hit for 20-kills or more in each of the past five matches.
 
The Gauchos (5-4, 3-3) split a pair of matches last week at home. UCSB dropped a three-set decision to top-ranked USC and rebounded by sweeping Pepperdine in three. Against the Waves, the Gauchos hit .563 as a team led by Jeff Menzel's 15 kills while Scott Slaughter had 12 kills with no errors in 16 attempts.
 
The teams wrapped up regular season play last season in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Gauchos won in straight sets the first night as Umlauft provided most of the firepower for the Warriors with 21 kills. Menzel led UCSB with 16 kills while Dylan Davis had 10 kills in 13 attempts. In the rematch, UH answered with a three-set win of their own as Umlauft tallied 22 kills and Joshua Walker added 14.

Tickets: Lower-level $11; Upper-level adult $8, Upper-level senior citizen $7; Upper-level student (4-HS) $3. UH receive admission with validated ID.
Promotion: Active, reservists, and retired members of the military will receive 50% off adult upper level tickets (maximum of eight) to both matches against UC Santa Barbara. A valid military identification card is required when purchasing tickets at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office. Tickets are in special sections and supplies are limited. Other restrictions may apply.
Series vs. UCSB: UH leads the overall series 41-28. The teams have split the season series seven times in the past 10 years with UH sweeping the series in 2003 and the Gauchos winning both matches during the 2007 and '08 seasons. The last time the series was held in Honolulu, UCSB won the opening match in four-sets, which included a 41-39 Gaucho victory in the third set. UH answered with a straight-set win the next night. UH leads the series 20-13 in Honolulu.
