Round 1 Results
LIHUE, KAUA'I – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team is in first place after Round 1 of the Kaua'i Collegiate Invitational Sunday at the Puakea Golf Course.
The Warriors shot a 3-under 285 with five golfers in the Top 10, including senior
T.J. Kua, who is tied for the individual lead with a 3-under 69. Sophomore
Nainoa Calip, competing as an individual, is in a three-way tie for third place with a 2-under 70.
Junior
Cory Oride is one stroke back with a 1-under 71 followed by junior
Henry Park (72), sophomore
Tommy Yamashita (73), freshman
Michael Koeneke (75).
In addition to Calip, other Warriors competing as individuals are sophomore
David Saka (75), freshman
Ryan Kuroiwa (77), freshman
Brian Lee (77), junior
Alex Chu (78), and senior
Jared Sawada (83).
Three-time defending tournament champion San Diego is in third place at 296 behind UH and College of Charleston (289). Utah Valley State (300), Seattle (301), and North Dakota State (308) round out the field.
Alex Ching, a Punahou School graduate, is tied with Kua for the tournament lead. Ching has finished in the Top 10 in three previous Kauai Invitationals. Utah Valley State's Mason Casper and College of Charleston's John Duke Hudson are tied for third at 2-under 70.
The tournament's second round is scheduled for Monday with the final round on Tuesday.
