Women's Basketball Opens WAC Against New Mexico State

Game Notes

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (6-7, 0-0 WAC) opens its Western Athletic Conference season against New Mexico State (6-8, 0-0 WAC) this Thursday, Jan. 6, 2010. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m. with the UH men's basketball game against Idaho to follow at 7:30 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH has posted a 6-7 non-conference record against some fierce competition under second-year head coach Dana Takahara-Dias. The 'Bows are coming off a strong outing in the Pepsi Rainbow Wahine Invitational, going 2-1 with wins over Columbia and CSU Bakersfield. Freshman forward, Kamilah Jackson, led Hawai'i in their final tournament, averaging 19.3 points and 16.0 rebounds per game. Against the Roadrunners, Jackson scored a UH freshman-record 31 points while pulling down an NCAA-best 25 rebounds this season.

The 'Bows look to improve upon back-to-back 4-12 conference seasons. Last year, the Aggies took both games against Hawai'i to take the series lead, 14-13.
