HONOLULU – Four University of Hawai'i men's tennis players advanced after the first two rounds of the USTA Wildcard Event Friday at Ke'ehi Lagoon Park. Seniors
Jeremy Tweedt and
Daniel Llarenas and sophomore
Dmytro Kovalyov and freshman
David Schuster all advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals.
The Rainbow Warriors make up of half of the quarterfinal field as teammates Schuster and Llarenas will face each other in one matchup. Matches begin at 9 a.m. and move back to the Central O'ahu Regional Park after the first two rounds were held at Ke'ehi Lagoon due to wet weather.
The winner of this event will earn an automatic berth into the main draw of the Honolulu Challenger, running January 23-30 also at Central Oahu Regional Park. The event includes several players ranked in the top 100 on the ATP tour. Last year's winner was Michael Russell. UH senior
Dennis Lajola has already earned a wildcard spot by winning the Honolulu Masters Open the past fall.
