Women's Basketball Battles Hard But Falls at Portland, 61-66

HONOLULU—University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (4-4) battled but eventually fell in its second road game of the season at Portland, 61-66. The 'Bows were led by freshman Kamilah Jackson and senior Megan Tinnin with 18 points each at the Chiles Center on Saturday night.
 
In all, three Rainbow Wahine posted double-figures in points in the loss: Jackson, Tinnin and Breanna Arbuckle who notched 15 points—including 10 in the second half. Jackson continued her strong rookie season with her fifth straight double-double with 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. She now leads the team with 87 total rebounds this season with a 10.9 average. Tinnin drained four 3-pointers in the game as she scored a season-high 18 points. She also had four rebounds with two assists and a steal. Arbuckle also had her second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds to go with her 15 points. She also had two assists, two blocks and a steal tonight.
 
The Rainbow Wahine out-rebounded the Pilots 47-to-34, and had an edge over UP with 34-to-24 points in the paint. The 'Bows' bench managed to score just two points, whereas Portland's reserves tallied 23 points in the win. Portland also won the turnover battle, 13-to-19 but more importantly, the Pilots cashed in scoring 23 points off those turnovers. Hawai`i only was able to score nine points off of UP turnovers.
 
The 'Bows battled hard until the very end with Tinnin sinking two 3-point shots within the last 24-seconds of the game, bringing the 'Bows with one-point. The Pilots, however, converted on their free-throws down the stretch when it counted to seal the victory.
 
The Pilots took a 29-27 lead into the half with Jackson leading UH with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting with eight rebounds. Tinnin hit a pair of treys for six points in the first half.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return home and have this coming week off before they head to Hilo, Hawai`i to host East Carolina and No. 13 UCLA in the Chevron Rainbow Wahine Shootout (Dec. 19-21). All games will be held at the Ahfook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
