HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team got back in the win column with an easy 72-50 win over Hawai'i Pacific Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. UH (6-2) scored 18 unanswered points during a six-minute stretch late in the first half and early in the second half to put away the Division II Sea Warriors (3-6).

Zane Johnson led the way by posting career highs with 18 points and nine rebounds. The junior nailed six-of-nine three-pointers and sparked UH's decisive run with a trio of long balls in less than 90 seconds. Hiram Thompson added 15 points while freshman guard Bobby Miles had nine points and six assists in his second straight start. Meanwhile post players Douglas Kurtz and Vander Joaquim combined for 18 points and 14 rebounds

After dropping its first two games of the season on the road, UH returned to the Stan Sheriff Center for its first home game in 17 days. The game looked like it would be a runaway early as UH jumped out to an 8-0 lead. But the Sea Warriors hung tough, taking a one-point lead midway though the first half and trailing by just two with 1:30 remaining in the half.

However, that's when the game turned as Johnson hit three straight three-pointers, including one at the halftime buzzer, to extend UH's slim lead to a 37-26 advantage going into the locker room.

The run continued in the second half as the 'Bows held the Sea Warriors scoreless for nearly the first five minutes. UH scored nine more unanswered points out of the locker room, stretching its lead to 46-26, and the 'Bows never looked back.

UH buried nine three-pointers, grabbed a season-high 51 rebounds and held the Sea Warriors to just 30 percent shooting to grab the win in just the second-ever regular-season meeting between the teams.

Hawai'i  will next head to Maui for its first appearance on the neighbor islands in seven years. The 'Bows face Chicago State at the Lahaina Civic Center with a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
