Box Score

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (3-1) overwhelmed North Carolina Central, 82-47. Three UH players scored in double-digits. Freshman Kamilah Jackson recorded her first career double-double leading UH with 19 points and 12 rebounds on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center. The 35-point victory was the largest since Dec. 19, 2000 when the 'Bows defeated Detroit, 97-53.

Hawai`i outrebounded the Lady Eagles (1-2), 45-21 with 27 defensive rebounds. The 'Bows shot a solid 48.4% from the floor (56.7% in the second half alone) while holding NCCU to just a 32.7 field goal percentage. All 12 Rainbow Wahine that were suited up for the game played.

Jackson went 7-of-12 from the floor, 5-for-6 at the free-throw line and also contributed two blocks and an assist. Senior Keisha Kanekoa also had a strong game, tallying 18 points (8-of-11 in field goals, 2-of-3 in 3-pointers) with seven rebounds a steal and an assist. Senior Allie Patterson had a season-high 14 points with three boards and two steals, while junior Breanna Arbuckle did a little of everything, scoring nine points, grabbing five rebounds with a game-high four assists and two blocks in 20 minutes of action.

The Lady Eagles also had three players in double figures in the points column. Both Chasidy Williams and Shanise Blanks both had 14 points, while Jori Nwachukwu notched 10. Williams also led NCCU with 8 rebounds on the night.

Hawai`i took a 39-17 lead into the half, led by Kanekoa with 10 points and Jackson's nine rebounds.

Sidenote: Megan Tinnin inched closer to earning the UH career record for 3-pointers made. Tonight, she was 1-of-7 beyond the arch, setting a new single-game record for 3-pointers attempted. The previous record of six was held by Jade Abele, Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe, Elizabeth Sirchia, and Tinnin herself. She is now just two 3-pointers shy of tying the career 3-point record set by former UH great, Nani Cockett in 1998.

With the win, Hawai`i now advances to tomorrow's winner bracket game against Mississippi, who battled and came from behind to defeat Gonzaga, 53-52 on a last minute basket. UH's game will be at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
