ROME – University of Hawai`i women's water polo player
Carmen Eggens was named to the Canadian National Team and is currently competing for her home country at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, Italy.
The 13th FINA World Championships is the best competition in the world, and features 16 countries, including 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medalists the Netherlands and silver medalists the United States.
Eggens is one of 13 players to make the Canadian roster and is one of the youngest players on the team. Eggens will be a junior next season at UH.
The World Championships run through August 2. The tournament begins with group play, before single elimination.
Former Rainbow Wahine Iefke van Belkum, who won a gold medal with the Netherlands, is also competing at the World Championships.
