UH Javelin Throwers Dominate Steve Scott Invitational

Day 1 Results

IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team completed the first day of the Steve Scott Invitational Saturday with several Top 10 finishes at UC Irvine's Anteater Track Stadium.
 
The Rainbow Wahine dominated the javelin competition with three athletes finishing among the top four finishers. Annett Wichmann won the competition with a throw of 153-8 (46.83m). Freshman Kai Schmidt placed third at 133-8 (40.74m) while junior Lauren Cutler was one spot back with a personal best 130-8 (39.84m).
 
Sophomore Anika Borden finished ninth in the hammer with a throw of 149-9 (45.64m). Careena Onosai placed 16th with a mark of 133-5 (40.66m).
 
Three UH athletes competed in the long jump with Emily Sheppard posting a personal best mark of 18-7 (5.66m). Wichmann and freshman Jamilee Jimenez were 17th and 18th with marks of 17-11 (5.46m) and 17-9 (5.41m), respectively.
 
Sophomore Samantha Lotnick competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase and placed ninth, clocking in at 11:41.70.
 
The meet concludes on Sunday with a full field of events.
