SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 54 University of Hawai'i men's tennis team fell to No. 50 San Diego, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the USD West Tennis Courts. UH drops to 1-3 and the Toreros improve to 2-3 on the season.
The Warriors lost the doubles point by losing two of the three doubles matches. UH's sole victory came at the No, 2 position. The duo of sophomore Dennis Lajola and junior Andreas Weber beat the team of Nils Schive and Nicola Bubnic, 8-4.
Moving in to singles action, the Warriors dropped four of the six matches to lose the dual match. Senior
Sascha Heinemann breezed to an easy win over Bubnic at the No. 4 court, 6-1, 6-2. Senior
Jeff Fitch earned UH's other singles victory, beating Juan Devillier in straight sets at the No. 6 position. Weber lost a heartbreaking three set match to No. 92 Charl Wolmarans 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(7).
The Warriors conclude their three-match road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 11 against No. 55 St. Mary's. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Korth Tennis Complex.
