Rainbow Wahine Basketball Beats BYU-Hawai‘i 76-46 In Hukilau Invitational

LA'IE, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine basketball team (3-4) defeated the BYU-Hawai'i Seasiders (1-2) 76-46 in the Hukilau Invitational at the Cannon Activities Center Friday.
 
Katie Wilson led UH with 17 points and five rebounds, going 6-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Dita Liepkalne had 16 points and six boards, while Allie Patterson had 10 points. Julita Bungaite went for nine points in just her second division one start.
 
The Rainbow Wahine jumped ahead early, using a 15-0 run to go ahead 18-3 with just under 14 minutes to play. Hawai'i continued the scoring spree throughout the half, reaching 42 points, the highest halftime output of the season. Liepkalne led the way with 12, with UH also getting nine from Bungaite and eight from Patterson, helping them hold a 42-21 advantage at the break.
 
BYUH came out firing to start the second half, scoring seven of the first nine points to cut the deficit back to 44-28. Wilson led UH's charge to take back control, scoring 10 straight point for the Rainbow Wahine during a stretch to get the lead to 60-40. Wilson later hit a three in the corner to get it to 66-42. Hawai'i then ended the game on a 10-2 run, making the final score 76-46.
 
The Invitational continues tomorrow with UH playing Brigham Young at 1 p.m. at the Cannon Activities Center.
