BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine basketball (1-2) finished its road trip with a 105-75 loss to Cal State Bakersfield (1-2) at the Icardo Center Saturday.
Keisha Kanekoa led the way for UH with 15 points, including a 7-for-7 performance from the free-throw line.
Shawna Kuehu added 14 points and eight rebounds while
Dita Liepkalne had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Roadrunners jumped ahead 16-6 to start after Phynique Allen hit all three free throws after getting fouled on a three-point attempt. UH pulled it back to 18-12, before a big 13-2 run by CSUB got it to 31-14.
The Roadrunners got the lead as high as 21 with 8:25 to go. But Hawai'i was able to whittle away, cutting it back to 48-37 after five-straight points by Liepkalne, before a five-point run by CSUB gave the Roadrunners a 53-37 lead at the half.
But CSUB kept running, opening the half with a 15-6 run to go ahead 68-43. In all, the Roadrunners hit a school-record 15 three-pointers for the game, shooting 15-for-28 from three (53.6 percent), while going 32-for-60 overall from the field (53.3 percent). They got their lead as high as 32 points before taking it by the final score of 105-75.
The Rainbow Wahine head back to the islands where they will host the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic, facing No. 14 Arizona State at 5 p.m. on Nov. 27, then East Tennessee State at 5 p.m. on Nov. 29.
