Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine basketball (1-1) fell to the UCLA Bruins (2-1) 98-52 on Nell and John Wooden Court at Pauley Pavillion Thursday.

Shawna Kuehu led the way for UH, scoring 15 points with four rebounds. Keisha Kanekoa added eight points while Leilani Galdones and Rebecca Dew posted six a piece.

UCLA opened the game with a 13-4 run in the first four minutes of the game. After a three-pointer by Galdones, UCLA's Erica Tukianen hit three from deep to spark a 9-1 run that got it to 22-8. The Bruins got it up to 28-11 before Kuehu scored three-straight baskets to start a 8-0 run, cutting it back to 28-19.

But the Bruins kept running, responding with a 11-2 run to get it back up to 39-21. From there, UH couldn't get the deficit under 15 for the rest of the half. UCLA then made another run late in the half, pushing a late 8-0 run to get its biggest lead to that point at 49-26, before a last-second layup by Allie Patterson cut it back to 49-28 at the half.

The three-point barrage continued for the Bruins in the second half as UCLA hit seven more threes in the second half, giving them a total of 12-for-19 from outside for the game. And the Bruins kept coming down the stretch, scoring 11 of the last 12 points of the game, winning by the final of 98-52.

The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the road trip with a game at Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.
