LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine basketball (1-1) fell to the UCLA Bruins (2-1) 98-52 on Nell and John Wooden Court at Pauley Pavillion Thursday.
UCLA opened the game with a 13-4 run in the first four minutes of the game. After a three-pointer by Galdones, UCLA's Erica Tukianen hit three from deep to spark a 9-1 run that got it to 22-8. The Bruins got it up to 28-11 before Kuehu scored three-straight baskets to start a 8-0 run, cutting it back to 28-19.
But the Bruins kept running, responding with a 11-2 run to get it back up to 39-21. From there, UH couldn't get the deficit under 15 for the rest of the half. UCLA then made another run late in the half, pushing a late 8-0 run to get its biggest lead to that point at 49-26, before a last-second layup by
Allie Patterson cut it back to 49-28 at the half.
The three-point barrage continued for the Bruins in the second half as UCLA hit seven more threes in the second half, giving them a total of 12-for-19 from outside for the game. And the Bruins kept coming down the stretch, scoring 11 of the last 12 points of the game, winning by the final of 98-52.
The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the road trip with a game at Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.
