Men’s Basketball Hosts Former WAC Nemesis BYU

Game Notes

Hiram Thompson drives ball down court past Northern Colorado defender
HONOLULU – After a runner-up finish in the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Warrior basketball team returns to the court on Friday, Nov. 20, with a contest versus former conference rival Brigham Young. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

This will be the first meeting between the teams since 1999 when both were members of the Western Athletic Conference. The 'Bows went 2-1 in the season-opening Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic and are coming off a tough 81-76 loss to Northern Colorado in the Rainbow Classic finals on Monday night. Dwain Williams (17.7 ppg), Roderick Flemings (16.3 ppg, 10.3 rpg) and Jeremy Lay (13.3 ppg) were all named to the all-tournament team.

UH must now gear up for a BYU squad that has become a Mountain West Conference power. The Cougars have claimed three straight conference regular season titles, made three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament and have notched 25-plus wins in each of those seasons. The Cougars (2-0) have started this year with a pair of home wins, including an 87-53 win over Idaho State on Tuesday night.
