Wichmann, Sheppard Compete In Pentathlon At UW Invite

Day 1 Results

SEATTLE – University of Hawai'i women's track and field athlete Annett Wichmann posted an NCAA provisional mark in the pentathlon at the University of Washington Invitational Friday at Dempsey Indoor. The senior from Jena, Germany accumulated 3,919 points in the five discipline event.
 
Wichmann, who finished third behind winner Sharon Day and Oregon's Brianne Thiesen, set a new pentathlon personal best in the shot put with a throw of 46-7.25 (14.20m), tops amongst the 16 competing athletes. She also tied for fifth in the high jump (5-6.5/1.69m) and tied for ninth in the long jump (17-4/5.28m).
 
Wichmann has qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the pentathlon the past two seasons including a fourth place finish last season.
 
Also competing in the event was teammate Emily Sheppard, who placed 12th with 3,381 points. The senior from Vancouver, British Columbia, set new pentathlon PRs in the shot put (32-11.75/10.05m) and 800-meter run (2:40.49) and tied her personal best in the high jump (5-7.75/1.72m).
 
UH's distance medley relay team comprised of Liisa Cushing, Briana Goodnight, Mariana Monasi, and Tava Tedesco placed sixth in their heat with a time of 13:04.85.
 
The rest of the Rainbow Wahine will be in action on Saturday for the final day of the UW Invitational.
