SEATTLE – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team went into overtime for the fourth consecutive game, but came away with a 2-1 loss against No. 21 Washington Sunday afternoon in Seattle.
The Rainbow Wahine tied a school record by going into overtime for the seventh time this season, and are now 3-4-3 on the year. In 2004, the Rainbow Wahine played a total of seven overtime games. So far this year, UH has played in seven overtime games out of its first 10. Washington improved to 9-1-0 on the season.
UH has opened up its three-game road trip with two overtime games. The four straight overtime games is one shy of the school record five straight overtime games set in 2006.
On Sunday afternoon, Washington opened the game scoring a goal 1:37 seconds into the match, but UH shut them down until the Huskies scored the game-winner in the 98th minute.
The Rainbow Wahine tied the game in the first half when
Ambree Ako scored her team-high fifth goal of the season. Ako took a pass from
Mari Punzal and beat Washington goalkeeper Alex Phillips with a shot to the lower left corner of the goal.
In goal,
Kori Lu recorded four saves, as Washington took 18 shots in the game, six on goal. UH had seven shots with four on goal.
UH wraps up its three-game road trip Tuesday, Sept. 30 when it faces Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (4 p.m. HT).
