2008 Big Wave Invitational Women's Final Results

KANE'OHE, O'ahu - The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team hosted the annual Big Wave Invitational Saturday at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course on Marines Corps Base Hawai'i. The Rainbow Wahine placed sixth in a women's field that featured Division I foes UCLA, San Diego State, Pepperdine as well as the state's four Division II programs.
 
UCLA claimed the women's race with total score of 26 points as five runners placed in the Top 10, including individual winner Katja Goldring, who completed the 4K race in 14:37.50. San Diego State took second (63) with two Top 10 finishers followed by Pepperdine (71), Brigham Young-Hawai'i (117), Hawai'i Pacific (118), UH (167), Hawai'i-Hilo (172), and Chaminade (250).
 
For the Rainbow Wahine, sophomore Mariana Monasi was the team's top finisher, placing 12th overall after clocking in at 15:17.93. Senior Tava Tedesco checked in at 16:14.14 for 36th place followed by Liisa Cushing (16:16.84, 38th), Gina Nourmohamadian (17:10.87, 45th), and Shannon Dresser (17:44.82, 51st).
 
In the 5K men's race, UCLA dominated the field scoring a perfect 15 team points. Laef Barnes led the Bruin contingent winning the individual title in a time of 15:12.16. In fact, all nine UCLA runners placed Nos. 1-9.
 
Pepperdine placed second with 69 points followed by Hawai'i Pacific (75), Brigham Young-Hawai'i (107), Hawai'i-Hilo (126), George Fox (166), and Chaminade (188).
 
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Stanford Invitational, Sept. 27.
