WAIPAHU, O`ahu – The University of Hawai`i women's soccer team battled Montana to a 0-0 tie Thursday night in the first game of the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Soccer Classic at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The Rainbow Wahine controlled the ball for most of the game, taking 14 shots to the Grizzlies eight. With the tie, UH moves to 2-3-2 overall, while Montana moves to 1-5-1.
In the second game of the classic, Montana will face No. 23 UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. Friday night at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium. UH wraps up the classic at 5 p.m. on Sunday against No. 23 UC Santa Barbara.
After scoring 17 goals in their first six games, the Rainbow Wahine were shut out for the first time this season. It also marks the second-straight shutout UH has posted.
Kori Lu recorded five saves in goal, playing all 110 minutes. Lu's biggest save came at the end of the second overtime, stopping Montana with less than 10 seconds remaining.
Offensively, UH let a couple good chances slip by early in the first half, but kept the pressure on the Montana defense.

Taryn Fukuroku recorded four shots, including one on goal. Her shot on goal came in the second overtime when she made a diving header that nearly bounced past Montana goalkeeper Grace Harris.
UH will have its second straight game aired live on KFVE at 5 p.m. Sunday against No. 23 UC Santa Barbara.
