HONOLULU - The Texas Longhorns (14-10-1) shut down the No. 16 University of Hawai`i softball team, 5-0, tonight on the final day of the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Meagan Denny (11-3) earned the win for Texas, while Courtney Baughman took the loss for the 'Bows.

Denny was firing on all cylinders, scattering four hits in four separate innings and striking out 10 with no walks for the complete game victory.

Hawai`i's Baughman took the loss, dropping her record to 10-5 on the season. She threw only the first 1.2 innings, giving up four runs, three of which were earned. Baughman also gave up four hits with one walk. Jessica Morton then came in to finish the final 5.1 innings, giving up just one unearned run on two hits with two strike outs.

Texas jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after the first inning, then tacked on three more in the top of the second with an RBI single by Desiree Williams and a crushing two run home run that knocked Baughman out of the game by Kacie Gaskin. The Longhorns scored one last run in the fifth on an RBI single by tournament MVP Tallie Thrasher that scored Gaskin from third.

Texas then faced North Carolina in the Championship game, but the game ended in a 1-1 tie after seven innings of play because the Longhorns had to catch a flight. The coaches' and umpires agreed upon the "drop-dead" time limit before the game started.

Hawai`i now has three days off before they begin their final non-conference tournament of the season, the Bank of Hawaii Invitational. The 'Bows will battle Northwestern, California, St. Mary's and Colorado State from Mar. 19-22.
