Box Score

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The No. 15 University of Hawai`i softball team fell to California, 9-2, on the second day of the Eller Media Stadium Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The Golden Bears amassed 13 hits and handed UH pitcher Courtney Baughman (7-1) her first loss of the season.

Cal scored a single run in the first, exploded for five more in the second, added another run in the fifth, and then tacked on two more in the sixth. Baughman threw only one complete inning. She gave up four runs on four hits with one walk. Freshman Melissa Gonzalez pitched the final six innings in her first career appearance for Hawai`i. She yielded five runs, three earned, on nine hits with a walk and two strike outs. Hawai`i's best scoring opportunity came in the third. The 'Bows were able to get one run across when Julie Franklin drew a walk with the bases loaded to push Clare Warwick across the plate. But the inning ended on a strike out. In all, UH stranded 10 runners on base.

Warwick was the lone offensive highlight for the game. She went 2-for-4 and scored both of UH's runs. In the fifth, she led the inning off with a double to the left-centerfield gap. She moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly to left hit by Kaulana Gould.

The Rainbow Wahine have two games left in the EMS Classic. Tonight they will face host, UNLV. Tomorrow the team has the first game of the day against Pittsburgh at 9:00 am.
