'Bows Take First Game Of Doubleheader Over Dons 9-6

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (4-1) defeated the San Francisco Dons (0-2) 9-6 in the first game of a doubleheader at Les Murakami Stadium Saturday. Jared Alexander (2-0) pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two unearned runs with four strikeouts to get the victory. Jayson Kramer came on in relief to pitch 0.2 innings and get the save. Evan Fredrickson took the loss for the Dons.

Jeffrey Van Doornum led the way for UH, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, a double and a run. Brandon Haislet added a 2-for-3 game with three runs and a stolen base, while Jonathan Hee went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run.

Hawai`i jumped on Dons' starter Evan Fredickson early. UH scored seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by two-run singles by both Van Doornum and Hee. Van Doornum then hit an RBI-double in the second to make it 8-0 before San Francisco could respond.

The Dons put up two unearned runs in the top of the fourth, only to see UH put up another run in the bottom half of the inning, making it 9-2.

USF would put up four runs in the top of the ninth and get the tying run to the plate. But Kramer came in to settle the situation, getting the final two batters out to end the game with a 9-6 Hawai`i win.

The second game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. HST.
