Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short Against Arizona

HILO, Hawai`i – The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team closed out the Bank of Hawaii Invitational with a 62-50 loss to Arizona Sunday afternoon at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo, Hawai`i.
 
The Rainbow Wahine battled tough all game and closed the gap to four points with just over two minutes left, but could finish the comeback. UH finished the Bank of Hawaii Invitational with a 0-3 record.
 
Overall, Arizona, Loyola Marymount and Toledo all finished the Bank of Hawaii Invitational 2-1. The invitational was hosted by UH-Hilo and all games were played at the Civic Auditorium.
 
Against Arizona, the Rainbow Wahine were led by Megan Tinnin, who scored 11 points and added three steals. Keisha Kanekoa scored eight points and had eight assists and Sarah Ilic added nine points and four rebounds.
 
UH did a good job taking care of the ball, only committing 11 turnovers, while forcing Arizona into 21 turnovers.
 
In the first half, UH trailed from the opening tip, but battled back to cut the lead to three before Arizona pulled away 33-21.
 
Kanekoa led the Rainbow Wahine in the first half with six points and three assists and Tinnin added four points. UH shot 30.4 percent in the first half, while Arizona shot 50 percent.
 
In the fifth game of the invitational, Loyola Marymount came back from a double-digit deficit to beat Toledo 81-74, giving the Rockets their first loss of the invitational. Loyola Marymount and Toledo both finished with a 2-1 record.
 
The Rainbow Wahine take a week off before hosting the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic, beginning Nov. 28 at the Stan Sheriff Center. The six-team classic will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 28-30.
