MALIBU, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team completed day two of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association West-South Region Championships, Friday, at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Senior Sascha Heinemann, junior Andreas Weber, and sophomore Dennis Lajola advanced in the main draw. 

In singles play, Heinemann, Weber, and Lajola advanced to the round of 32. Heinemann blanked Rob Foy of Cal Poly, 6-0, 6-0. Weber rolled over Matt Tosches of San Diego State in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3 and Lajola outlasted Philip Therp of UC Santa Barbara in three close sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Leo Rosenburg lost a heartbreaking 7-6, 7-6 match to Bartosz Golas of San Diego State. Sophomore Craig Faulk lost to Stephen Stege of UC Irvine, 6-0, 6-1 and junior Spence Mendoza dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Tom Wolff of San Diego.

Weber, seeded No. 10 and ranked No. 76 in the ITA preseason rannkings, will play Moodi kamel of Pepperdine. Heinemann, seeded No. 8 and ranked No. 53, will face Gautam Vaidyanathan of UC Irvine. Lajola, seeded No. 13 and ranked No. 89 will compete against Eugene Brazdil of UCLA.

In doubles play, the dynamic duo and the No. 8 seeded team of Heinemann and Weber beat Matt Tosches and Tim Schulz van Endert of San Diego State, 8-4. Heinemann and Weber will next play in the quarterfinals against the No. 1 seeded team of Robert Farah and Steve Johnson of USC. The team of senior Jeff Fitch and Mendoza was ousted by UCLA's Amit Inbar and Holden Seguso, 8-5.

Eight singles players and four doubles team represent UH in the tournament. The five-day individual singles and doubles tournament includes players from 11 West Region teams. The tournament continues throughout the week.
