RENO, Nev. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (33-24) fell to the Nevada Wolf Pack (33-24) 11-1 on the first day of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Peccole Park Thursday.
Ian Harrington (7-8) took the loss for the Rainbows while Ryan Rodriguez (10-4) got the win.
Kris Sanchez led the way for UH, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run. Brandon Haislet added a 1-for-2 game with two stolen bases, while Kevin Macdonald also went 1-for-2.
The Rainbows took an early lead as Sanchez scored a run on a double steal in the top of the second. But Nevada came right back in the bottom of the second, scoring four unearned runs, including a three-run home run by Jeff Sadoian, making it 4-1.
The Wolf Pack then exploded in the middle innings, scoring a run in the fourth and four in the fifth before putting up back-to-back home runs in the sixth to make it 11-1.
Hawai`i falls to the loser's bracket, where they will face Sacramento State at 11 a.m. (8 a.m. HST) at Peccole Park.
