Box Score

HONOLULU - The 14th-ranked University of Hawai`i Warrior volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to No. 1 Pepperdine in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match this afternoon in front of 3,339 fans at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawai`i (3-13, 3-11 MPSF) played inspired today jumping out to a 5-1 lead in Game 1. But the Waves came back to tie it at 13. The two teams seesawed until the Waves took the lead at 19-18. UH then tied it on a Wave service error and reclaimed the lead. The Warriors extended it to 23-21 when the Waves got hot and reeled off four straight to take a 25-23 advantage. UH then scored four unanswered points of their own to go up 27-25. The two teams played sideout the rest of the way as Matt Vanzant sealed Game 1 with a kill to give UH a 30-28 win.

Game 2 was all Pepperdine going out to a 6-3 lead and never looked back winning handily, 30-19.

Pepperdine (16-1, 13-1 MPSF) started strong in Game 3 leading 9-6. UH would tie it at 10 and take a 13-10 advantage. The Waves would pull even at 18. UH would go up by as many as two, 25-23. Pepperdine would rally scoring four straight to turn the momentum back in their favor and hold off UH, 30-28.

Game 4 mirrored the previous set. With the game tied at five, UH tallied five straight points to lead 10-5. Pepperdine eventually caught the Warriors at 25. With the score tied at 26, the Waves got two-straight kills by Paul Carroll and a UH attack error to build a three-point lead, 29-26, and go on to hold off a late rally to win the match, 30-28.

Hawai`i hosts Cal State Northridge next week for a pair of MPSF matches at the SSC Marcy 16-17 at 7:00 p.m. both nights.
