HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (10-6) used a 13-run seventh inning to beat Chicago State (0-7) 20-1 at the Les Murakami Stadium Thursday.
Ian Harrington (3-3) pitched 7.0 innings, striking out eight while allowing just one unearned run to get the win. Chris Freshour (0-3) took the loss for the Cougars.
The 20 runs for UH was the most they've scored since they posted 34 runs in a 34-11 victory at Air Force on April 8, 1999. All 16 position players that got in for Hawai`i either scored or drove in runs during the game.
Brandon Haislet led the 'Bows, going 3-for-6 with three RBI and two doubles. Jonathan Hee and Justin Frash added 2-for-3 game with two runs and one RBI while Elijah Christensen went 2-for-4 with three runs. Ryan Asato was 2-for-2 with two doubles while Matthew Roquemore went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Hawai`i scored runs in the first and third innings, before Frash and Kris Sanchez drove in runs in the fifth to make it 4-0. After giving up a run in the top of the sixth, UH put up three more to make it 7-1.
Then the 'Bows got their big inning in the seventh, scoring 13 runs, including a three-run triple by Vinnie Catricala. The 13 runs scored in the seventh were the most scored by a Rainbow team in the seventh inning, as Hawai`i took the game 20-1.
The two teams will continue their five-game series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at the Les Murakami Stadium.
