SEATTLE, Wash. - The University of Hawai`i track and field team set eight personal bests including senior
Novelle Murray's record throw in the weight toss at the Husky Classic, Saturday, at Dempsey Indoor on the campus of the University of Washington.
Murray's throw of 64-1.75 broke the previous mark, which she held, by more than three feet. It was also an NCAA provisional mark and the second farthest throw by a collegiate player on the day.
Murray wasn't the only Rainbow Wahine to excel in the weight throw. Meghan Weaver and Brittani Daniels set PR's with throws of 54-9.25 and 46-5.25, respectively.
Junior Chantelle Laan chopped off 12 seconds of her personal best in the 3000-meter, clocking in at 9:59.55. Her time is also the second fastest in the Western Athletic Conference this season.
Also setting personal bests were Aileen Ramos in the 60-meter and 400-meter dashes, Sharlene Carillo in the 800-meter run, and Tava Tedesco in the mile.
"It was a good day," head coach Carmyn James said. "And we're definitely excited about our chances tomorrow."
The Rainbow Wahine will participate in a dual meet against Cal Poly on Sunday. The dual meet is part of the UW Open #3 but both teams decided to compete against each other.
