Rainbow Wahine Place Eighth At WAC Championship

LOGAN, Utah - The University of Hawai`i women's cross country team finished eighth at the Western Athletic Conference Championships, Saturday, at American Heritage Center. Senior Chantelle Wilder was the team's top finisher, placing 23rd overall among more than 70 women's athletes.

The Rainbow Wahine accumulated 215 total points. Idaho captured the women's title - its first since 2005 - with 39 points. Boise State's Breanna Sande took top individual honors, finishing the 5K course in a time of 17:01.32.

Wilder was UH's top finisher for the seventh time this season and completed the course in 17:53.21. The other Rainbow Wahine competitors included Jessi Locke (18:28, 39th), Briana Goodnight (19:44, 56th), Mallory Kurosumi (20:37, 63rd), and Annett Wichmann (20:45, 64th), all of whom posted personal bests.

The Rainbow Wahine will conclude the 2007 season at the NCAA West Regionals, Saturday, Nov. 10, in Eugene, Ore.
