'Bows Stay Alive With 5-3 Win Over Wright State In NCAA Regional

Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (44-16) outlasted the Wright State Raiders (32-27) 5-3 on the second day of the NCAA Regional at Goss Stadium on the campus of Oregon State University Saturday, eliminating the Raiders from the tournament. Ian Harrington pitched his second-straight complete game, allowing just three runs on six hits to get the victory. Erich Schanz (6-4) took the loss.

Derek DuPree came up big for the 'Bows, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and a triple. Robbie Wilder went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Matthew Inouye added a 2-for-4 game with a RBI and a double while Esteban Lopez added a 2-for-4 game.

The Rainbows broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third as DuPree tripled in Wilder before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Justin Frash to give the `Bows a 2-0 edge. That lead would hold for a while as Harrington didn't allow the first Raider hit until the top of the fifth.

Hawai`i again got the offense going in the bottom of the fifth as Luis Avila and Inouye drove in runs to push the UH lead to 4-0. Wilder then led off the sixth inning with a home run to left field, to get the difference up to 5-0.

Wright State was able to get to Harrington in the top of the seventh, scoring a run on three hits. The Raiders then got even closer with a two-run home run by Aaron Garcia. But Harrington settled down and got the next three batters out to preserve the victory.

The Rainbows will await the loser of the Kansas-Oregon State game in tomorrow's 1 p.m. (10 a.m. HST) game
