Rainbows Breakout At Grambling State, 11-2

GRAMBLING, La. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (33-12) defeated the Grambling State Tigers (6-36) 11-2 at Tiger Stadium Tuesday. Dean Turner (1-1) pitched 4.0 no-hit innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory while Mikel Hall (0-1) got the loss for the Tigers.

Justin Frash led the way, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs and three walks. Robbie Wilder added a 2-for-4 game with three runs, one RBI and two walks, while Adam Roberts had a double with a RBI and a run.

Hawai`i put up the first run of the game, as Luis Avila drove in a run with the bases loaded in the first inning, giving the `Bows a 1-0 edge. Grambling then put up a run in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1.

The Rainbows would break the tie in the top of the fourth as Frash hit a two-run single up the middle, to make it 3-1. Roberts then smacked a double to left in the sixth, scoring Frash, with Nathan Young driving in a run later in the inning to push UH's advantage to 5-1. The Rainbows then busted it open in the eighth, scoring six runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Frash, getting their lead to 11-1. The Tigers added a run in the bottom of the eighth, on a home run, making the final 11-2.

The Rainbows will now return to WAC play with a big four-game series at Louisiana Tech, running from Thursday, May 4, through Saturday, May 6, with two games on Saturday.
